We all want to ensure our children are safe and happy, as a mother I can empathise with this.
As parents, it can be a tricky business getting your child to open up and be honest with you about what's really going on in their lives especially if it's something they find embarrassing or uncomfortable to talk about.
Common issues include:
Managing stress and anxiety
Moving away from home
Making plans for the future
Increased academic pressure
Making the right choices
Dealing with distress and challenges
Dealing with uncertainty
And many more
Thinking of our child suffering in silence is an awful and scary thought, yet unfortunately this is a true reality for some.
It may be useful to ask ourselves;
Am I confident my child will turn to me when they're experiencing moments such as:
'I don't know what to do'
'I don't know who to talk to'
'I feel like I can't cope'
The Student Life Coach exists to tackle this problem and provide your child with the safety net they may need in order to thrive and excel at university.
The 1:1 sessions are conducted by myself - The Student Life Coach.
Your child can talk openly in a safe, non-judgemental space to allow them to be honest about things they may not feel comfortable discussing with family or friends, such as:
Anxiety, stress, depression, struggles with motivation, concentration, budgeting, making friends, how to combat loneliness, thoughts of self-harm, how to be more confident, how to manage a break up, how to achieve academically and much more.
Their needs will be assessed and individually tailored action plans will be employed. By using a step by step approach, the larger set goals become more achievable. This is a simple yet effective way of overcoming challenges that feel overwhelming and difficult to manage.
The sessions are conducted via online chat, voice or video calls - the preference determined by your child depending on what they feel most comfortable with.
Your child will receive an action plan after sessions with step by step guidance on what to do to manage the issue/s, including targets to reach before the next session.
Additional support is available outside of session (level of support dependant on needs of the individual). This acts as an opportunity for your child to ask questions as they arise and receive additional support in the moment.
Provide a safety blanket by gifting sessions with The Student Life Coach, to be used as and when that support is needed.
